We are building general-purpose CPUs with performance and energy efficiency 1000x better than existing out-of-order processors.
This is an architectural difference, not a fab difference. Not more or better transistors, but instead being less wasteful with transistors.
Furthermore, the particular approach enables CPUs with significantly higher defect tolerance, opening the possibility for much cheaper fab processes.
Doing this correctly requires creating a new ISA from scratch, one much more aligned with the physics of computation than human models of it.
This breaks compatibility with most existing code, but offers the opportunity for a clean-slate redesign of the entire software stack, with an extremely compelling performance advantage to motivate early adoption. Many software systems are much more complicated than necessary strictly because of path dependence or legacy hardware, problems that are largely eliminated here.
Hardware is of no use without software to run on it. ACC will be releasing software tools as well, please come back soon for updates.
